Look Development

Just as we have been adopted into the family of God, there are so many children needing to be adopted or sponsored, just to have hope for tomorrow. My heart in this post is simply to share what is happening in one part of the world, concerning needy children.

A friend of mine from high school, Amanda DeSarro, along with her husband Matt, have partnered with Look Development to help make a difference in the lives of children in Ethiopia. Matt and Amanda have two biological children and two adopted children, one of them from Ethiopia and the other from the Dominican Republic.

Here is more about their heart for Look Development:

Please pray about how God may want to use you in the Big picture of doing Kingdom work. There are so many ways to be one who can make a difference: prayer, financial support/sponsorship, adoption, sharing information and getting the word out to others!

My heart is so burdened for the orphaned and needy, as well as for my own children to understand the enormous amount of blessings we have been given in Christ Jesus. I long for them to develop a heart for using the many number of blessings they have been given to positively impact the lives of others who are less fortunate. We are blessed beyond measure and my heart is deeply pressed upon to find ways to be making eternal impact in the lives of others. I pray that God will reveal to you, how you might be used for His glory in caring for the orphans of this world.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:3-12)

There is SO much out there that we can do but I think the vast amount that there is sometimes overwhelms people into actually doing nothing. That is great that you are sharing one simple way people can get involved in Kingdom works.

We have been talking to our kids about orphans a lot lately and have friends back home who are adopting from Ethiopia. Averi has mentioned a couple of times, "But mommy, you are not gonna adopt us right?"

Now of course we assure her how loved and blessed she is that she has been given parents who love AND can provide for her...and I actually could see some people saying that children as young as her aren't ready to know about the pain that exists in our world.

I disagree though. I think it has more to do with her inability to see outside her own life. Something we all struggle with. She can't imagine a life where a daddy doesn't get down on the floor and play lion, where she doesn't get to help with backwards dinner (dessert first!) on Friday nights, or where mommies don't give their kids "scratches" on their backs at bedtime.

And if I think about it I have a hard time too, which I think has sometimes limited how God can use me. What if our kids have a heart of compassion and an absolute gratefulness of their own blessings? How much more powerful are those qualities in the Hands of our Creator??? :)

Thanks for sharing Melissa!
